{"id":969,"date":"2026-06-03T20:06:39","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T20:06:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/americanhomejournals.com\/?p=969"},"modified":"2026-06-03T20:06:39","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T20:06:39","slug":"openais-cfo-says-she-cant-say-if-jony-ives-device-is-an-earpiece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/americanhomejournals.com\/?p=969","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI&#8217;s CFO says she can&#8217;t say if Jony Ive&#8217;s device is an earpiece"},"content":{"rendered":"<section>\n<p>OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar said it&#8217;s hard to describe what it feels like to use the company&#8217;s closely-guarded AI hardware device.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/americanhomejournals.com\/?p=967\">\u2018You can\u2019t handle the truth!\u2019 Microsoft staff push back on survey results.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It feels very natural, but it feels very lovable,&#8221; Friar said during a live interview at the &#8220;All-In Podcast&#8221; team&#8217;s Liquity Summit in California.<\/p>\n<p>When the co-hosts of the &#8220;All-In&#8221; podcast pressed her on whether Jony Ive-led device is an earpiece, she joked about the legendary iPhone designer&#8217;s potential response.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If I tell you it&#8217;s an earpiece, Jony will come and steal my teenage son,&#8221; Friar said. &#8220;I might give him to him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><iframe allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\" data-root-margin=\"100% 0px\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TjrShuj_Zsg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"315\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" title=\"OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar on IPO, AI Rivalries, New Device, and Spending $100B+ on Compute\" width=\"560\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Friar described a visceral reaction to using the device.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What Johnny and team are really good at is bringing humanity to devices,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I don&#8217;t really know how to explain that well, but when you see it, you feel it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI has remained largely mum about what the device will be, leading to rampant speculation online. In February, OpenAI quickly denounced a purportedly leaked ad featuring actor Alexander Skarsg\u00e5rd that showed an orb-shaped device and earbuds as &#8220;totally fake.&#8221; OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has said the device is not a phone, ending one line of speculation.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/americanhomejournals.com\/?p=965\">Kevin O\u2019Leary says he\u2019s \u2018not walking away\u2019 from his Utah AI data center, despite call to shrink it by 75%<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What is more certain is the timeline for OpenAI&#8217;s launch of its first hardware device. Friar said that she has already tried out the device. She said that by &#8220;the end of this year,&#8221; OpenAI will unveil the device. Previously, OpenAI said in a legal filing that it did not expect to ship the device until February 2027.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2025, OpenAI announced it was buying <u>Ive&#8217;s AI hardware startup<\/u>, IO, for roughly $6.5 billion.
