The financial influencer, real name Haley Sacks, pushed back against the FIRE movement when speaking to Business Insider in a recent interview.<\/p>\n

The acronym is short for Financial Independence Retire Early, a lifestyle defined by aggressive saving and investing, usually with the goal of leaving the workforce well before the typical retirement age.<\/p>\n

Sacks, whose online persona revolves around building generational wealth, said followers of FIRE often go to unnecessarily difficult lengths to achieve their goals. She also thinks the hardcore lifestyle deters a lot of people from even trying.<\/p>\n

“You know, I beef with them,” the personal finance CEO told BI. “My beef with FIRE is that I do not believe that in order to grow wealth, it has to be so extreme, and I think that that mindset is actually what keeps so many people out of the game. And so, I basically look at FIRE as like financial anorexia, where it’s like you’re being so extreme, it’s so much deprivation.”<\/p>\n
